The avalanche started as that east-east-south facing slope had been in the sun for a few hours. It appeared to be a spontaneous trigger caused by the snowmelt on a warm day. I can't be sure because the starting altitude was significantly above my group, we were actually on foot below snow level, while it came from an altitude with a decent snowpack, probably below a cliff.

It happened in successive waves, 4 in total, with 1 to 5 seconds between each. It brought down rocks with it. No-one was buried beyond waist level. No significant injuries.
